🌀 Phillippi Creek Flood Relief Delayed—What It Means for Sarasota Homeowners

Hey everybody—Michael here, bringing you an important Sarasota update from the banks of Phillippi Creek.

📍 As you might remember, Phillippi Creek is the stormwater backbone for Sarasota, draining over 55 square miles of land. It’s a lifeline during hurricane season.

But here’s the problem:
🔹 Sarasota County submitted an emergency dredging plan this spring
🔹 The federal government put it on hold, requesting a full review
🔹 That means no work will begin until after hurricane season

đź’§ Crews have cleared over 1,000 cubic yards from key areas and repaired
nearby ditches—but it’s not the full fix.

The silver lining?

🏗️ The county is forming a new Stormwater Department to prioritize funding, focus, and long-term solutions.

What You Can Do Right Now:
â—Ź âś… Check your gutters and drains
â—Ź âś… Refresh sandbags
â—Ź âś… Evaluate your flood coverage
